I can imagine what you’re thinking: “Odd numbers! Oh no! Another theme consisting of an unconstrained set of words and phrases that share a certain uninteresting quality! Why, this is the very kind of puzzle I can find anywhere these days, the kind I come to David Alfred Bywaters’s Crossword Cavalcade specifically to avoid!” Well, don’t worry, imaginary solver, that’s not what this is about. In fact it was inspired by that most interesting volume in the new AMA-sponsored book series on the endearing quirks of medical professionals—Odd Numbers, by Ann S. Thesiologist.
